William "Brian" Carl was called home September 7th, 2025. Brian was a lifelong resident of Newport News and attended Ferguson High School. He enjoyed a life of cooking for many restaurants in our area. Brian loved music of all kinds and spent many of his younger years attending concerts. He was an avid chess player and he was known for his small cheesecake business he ran from his home. He loved to cook, garden and watch football and wrestling. Brian's love for animals of all kinds showed in his community efforts to care for the wild cat populations amongst other animals around his neighborhood.

Brian was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Mary Stroud Dimond (William) of Newport News, VA; his father, William Ashby Carl of Smithfield, VA; sister, Lisa Singer of Gloucester; and his grandson Christopher Lee Lamer of St Augustine, FL. Brian leaves behind the love of his life and devoted spouse of 30 years, Debbie Valente; sister, Deanna VanCleef (Frank) of Titusville, FL; brother, Michael Carl (Sherri) of Kitty Hawk, NC; daughters, Stormy Yea (Mark Robertson) of Poquoson and Crystal Carl (Scott Bee) of Suffolk; stepsons, Brian Melvin of Newport News and DJ Valente (Mary) of Newport News; son in law, Michael Yea of Kansas City, MO; grandchildren, James Lamer, Aleah Bee, Victoria Jamison, Dominique Miller, Tyler Yea, Jackson Yea, William "Levi" Yea, Keara King and Sophia Valente. Brian held a special place in his heart for his best friend, Chris. Many nights of game playing, football watching and chess were spent with Chris and he cherished those memories. He was also close to his nephew, Jonathan Carl and his niece, Jamie Shady who both visited often. Brian leaves behind many nieces and nephews and loved his family dearly.

The family will receive friends from 1-3:00 PM Saturday, October 11, 2025 at Berceuse Funeral and Cremation Traditions, 2609 Cunningham Dr. in Hampton, 757-825-8070.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the local SPCA or nonprofit animal rescues. This is where his heart and generosity shined the brightest.
