Obituary

CDR Ward Charles Douglas, U.S. Naval Reserve, Retired, passed away on Sunday December 3, 2023. He was 59.

CDR. Douglas grew up in Virginia Beach, Virginia, but has lived in Hampton, Virginia for the last 23 years.   After graduating First Colonial High School in 1983, he went to East Carolina University earning a BA in History.

CDR. Douglas joined the US Naval Reserves in 1993 and was commissioned in 1998. During his 28 year career he was assigned to various commands in Norfolk and Portsmouth. He deployed to JAC Molesworth for Operation Allied Force during the Kosovo Air Campaign, to Bahrain numerous times supporting Gulf Operations, and to Afghanistan as an Intelligence Advisor. His awards include The Navy Commendation Medals(2), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Achievement Medals (2) the Reserve Meritorious Service Medal and Iraq and Afghanistan Campaign Medals.  He retired as a Commander from the US Naval Reserves in September 2021.

CDR. Douglas spent several years as a member of the Virginia Beach Jaycees. He was specifically involved in the East Coast Surfing Championships, of which he was chairman in 1995 & 2002.

CDR. Douglas was preceded in death by his father Stewart Douglas. He is survived by his wife Maggie Douglas; his two daughters Dorothy Anne and Virginia Ruth; his mother, Betty Douglas; sisters Stuart Leigh Douglas and Jean Marie Principe; and nephews Benjamin and Tyson.
