In 1959 she went to church with her cousin and met, Leon V. Cole, a handsome young gentleman, who would later become her husband of 60 years. Leon and Violet would go on to have 6 children, 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Quite a legacy of Coles. Their love and commitment to one another is a true example of "the two becoming one."
What brought her the most joy was gathering her family together for holidays, birthdays, or just a simple family meal. This included the annual New Year's Eve party, that became a social highlight of the year.
While she loved her husband and family fiercely, a close third was her love of crafts! Her happy place was in the garage, covered in paint and wood stain, being creative and making things. Growing up, her daddy was a wood worker, so working with a ban saw was second nature. What started out as a way to make extra money during Christmas, soon turned into a full time arts and crafts business. This passion would span the next 4 decades. From the Poquoson Seafood Festival to the Virginia Beach Pavilion (on Black Friday, of all days), Violet had shows booked all year long. With Leon at the helm and kids to set up the shows, she had a whole craft army packing and unpacking her creations.
She would want to be remembered as a woman who loved her God, loved her husband and loved her family, friends … and her animals (dogs, cats and birds).
"Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints." - Psalm 116:15
