Timothy Patrick Roche, 57, passed away on January 3, 2026, after a long and painful battle with cancer, but he never lost his smile or love for his friends along the way.

Born in Providence, RI, he had been a resident of Hampton since 1984. He graduated from Peninsula Catholic High School in 1987 and attended ECU and Va Tech.  A life-long football fan, Tim was happiest when watching his beloved Steelers or Hokies. He was proud of the relationships he developed throughout his life and loved hanging out with friends.

Over the years, Tim received support from the Four Oaks Day Center in Newport News and the Community Service Board, especially Laurie and Isreal. We would also like to thank the staff of Amedisys Hospice Care of Williamsburg specifically Robert and Brandy for their loving care in his final days.

Tim was preceded in death by his parents, Eileen and David Roche, and siblings, Brendan Roche and Kerry Roche. He is survived by his sisters, Colleen Roche and Erin Matlock, and his nieces, Maggie and Grace.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to a local hospice, palliative care facility, or social services program in Tim’s memory.

A graveside service will be conducted 1:00 PM Friday, January 16, 2026, at Hampton Memorial Gardens in Hampton.

Gone From My Sight

I am standing upon the seashore.

A ship at my side spreads his white sails to the morning breeze,

And starts for the blue ocean.

He is an object of strength and pride…

And I stand and watch him until he hangs, like a speck of white cloud,

Just where the sea and sky meet and mingle with each other.

Then someone at my side says “There! He’s gone!”

Gone where?

Gone from my sight…that is all.

He is just as large in mast and hull and spar

As he was when he left my side…

And just as able to bear his load of living freight

To the place of his destination.

His diminished size is in me, and not in him.

And just at that moment,

When someone at my side says “There! He’s gone!”

There are other eyes watching for his coming;

And other voices ready to take up the glad shout:

“Here he comes!”
