Thomas Preston Smith, 69, passed away on July 16, 2021.  Born in Chilhowie, VA he has been a lifelong resident of the Peninsula. He worked as a Machinist for Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding.

Thomas is survived by his wife of 37 years, Carolyn J. Smith; his children, Edward B. Smith, Angie Gromlich, and Cheryl A. Moore; brother, David Smith; and grandchildren, Savanna K. Crosby, CJ Gromlich, Devon M. Moore, and Skylar Smith.

Thomas was a devoted and loving husband, a supportive, caring father, a proud grandfather, and a reliable friend to all. He seemed to have friends in every place he went. Tommy was also an avid bass fisherman, enjoyed working with his hands, and playing music with his guitar, dobro, and other instruments. He was quick to laugh and genuine of heart. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him, and he will be missed by his family and friends.
