Thomas Edwin "Ed" Rickman, Sr., 88 went to be with his Lord and Savior surrounded by family on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at The Gardens of Warwick Forest in Newport News, VA after a long struggle with Parkinson's. He was born in August, 1931 in Franklin, NC. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church, Hampton, VA where he served in many capacities including that of Deacon, Sunday School teacher and on many committees of the church.
Ed was an employee of C&O Railroad for 39 years as clerk.
He accepted Christ at the age of 17 and was active in the church bible club as a youth. His love for his Lord was shown by living example as he walked in faith and integrity.
He was always available to be a "hands on" person to get a job done. He was strong in character and exuded confidence as well as humility making his role as leader or helper an asset to any situation in which he was needed.
He was active in all churches and served on committees for church bi-laws, construction of building committees and put all his efforts into God's work. He was a biblical scholar and teacher to many people. He also did home visitation and communion for those home bound or in need.
He enjoyed golf with his friends, yard work, planning events for family and friends on almost every occasion, in which they enjoyed having at their home in Newport News, VA.
Ed married his beloved wife, Shirley Cole in September, 1950. They were faithfully married for 69 years. They had three children, Katherine "Kathy" Adams (Michael, deceased) , Sandra Tosh (deceased) Randy and Thomas "Tom" E Rickman, Jr. and wife June.
He was blessed with 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Also many nieces and nephews.
He was the son of Harrison Sloan and Pearl Rickman (deceased) sister, Ruby Campbell (deceased) and brother, Charles Rickman (deceased).
The family wishes to thank so many for their prayers, love and compassion over this time of sickness and loss.
We would also like to thank so many of the nurses, aides and staff of Warwick Gardens of Warwick Forest of Newport News, VA.
A private family graveside service is planned.
