Theresa Catherine Sumski, 76, widow of Ronald David Sumski, passed away on January 1, 2023.  Born in Allentown, PA, she was a resident of Wolcott, CT, before moving to Newport News in 2020.   Theresa was a devoted Catholic, faithfully prayed the rosary daily and spent her remaining years studying the bible. She graduated top of her class from the Mary Louis Academy in Queens, NY and continued her education at St. Johns Nursing College.   After a long, dedicated and enjoyable career as a nurse she retired as a Director of Nursing in West Hartford CT.

Theresa Sumski, loved spending her time watching sports especially the Dallas Cowboys and Notre Dame. She is survived by her children, Catherine McKay, Marie Sumski and her husband, Adam Reis, and Matthew Sumski and his wife Valerie Skettini-Sumski; and grandchildren, Rebeca McKay, Shane McKay, Kaiya McKay, Janna Hoyne and her wife Marki, Abigail Sumski, Andrew Sumski and Dominic Sumski. She loved her grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with each of them for their own unique qualities.  She loved playing board games, cards, doing puzzles as well as long drives and exploring new areas but especially spending time near the water.

Theresa loved animals and spent her last few years in the loving comfort of her dog Muggsy and her fluffy grand pups. She enjoyed going to Busch Gardens for the Special Events and loved going to Brunch. She wasn't without her cup of coffee and always enjoyed a run to Dunkin.

She will be missed for her warm conversation, pinochle playing and above all kindness and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Peninsula SPCA can be made in her name.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00 AM Thursday, January 19, 2023 at Our Lady Of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church by Rev. Dan Beeman.  A Celebration of Life with family and friends to follow the funeral. Burial will be in Albert G. Horton Jr Memorial Veteran's Cemetery in Suffolk on Friday.  Arrangements are by Berceuse Funeral and Cremation Traditions in Hampton, 757-825-8070.
