Susan Terrell Long, 85, of Newport News, VA passed away peacefully on March 11, 2024.  Susan was born on February 5, 1939 in Richmond, VA to Mildred Moss Terrell and William Dabney Terrell. She grew up in Beaverdam, VA and enjoyed the country life with her brother, Bill, and sister, Pat. They later moved to Hampton, VA during her high school years where she graduated from Hampton High School in 1957.

In 1959, Susan married her beloved, Anthony "Tony" Long, with whom she enjoyed 61years of marriage before his passing in 2020. Together they raised five children and were active members of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church. Susan had a lifelong passion for cooking and sewing. She also loved flowers, plants and gardening.  At the age of 40 she converted to Catholicism and her deep and abiding love for her new faith grew strongly throughout her life.  Susan was always upbeat, optimistic and loved to laugh.

Susan is survived by her children and their spouses: William Martin "Marty" Long II (Kimberly) of Fairfax Station, VA, Anthony Scott Long of Lorton, VA, Stephanie Kikis of Montpelier, VA, Michael Dabney Long (Clarita) of Ave Maria, FL and Connie Temple (Cliff) of Newport News, VA; 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; and brother, Bill Terrell of Beaverdam, VA.  She is predeceased by her sister, Patricia Terrell, Hanover, NH.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated, 10:00 AM Friday, April 12, 2024, in St. Michael's Hall at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church, 144 Harpersville Rd. in Newport News.  The interment will be private.  The family wishes any expressions of sympathy to take the form of contributions to OLMC Catholic Church, 52 Harpersville Rd., Newport News, VA  23601.
