Obituary

Sandra Holmberg Hall

October 22, 1945 – March 03, 2021

Sandra H. Hall, 75 years old, of Hampton, Virginia Devonshire Retirement Community, passed away peacefully with her family at her bedside.

Sandi was born in Biddeford, ME to William and Helen Holmberg.  She attended Keene State of NH, where she started her B.A. in Secondary Education with a major in English.  This is where she came to meet her husband of 23 years, Richard E. Hall.  They married May 22, 1965 in Jaffrey, NH and moved a few years later to Hampton Roads, Virginia.  She later finished her degree at Christopher Newport College.  They raised their three children: Wendy, Scott and Penny in their shared values of education, faith, and self-reliance.

Sandi worked for Newport News Public Schools for over 20 years.  She started as an Administrative Assistant to the NN School Boards Science, Health & Physical Education division.  She then moved onto being a Secretary and G.E.D. Examiner to the Denbigh Learning Resource Center.  Before she retired in 2011 where she held her favorite position for NNPS as an Adult Instructor teaching English as a second language.

She was a very loving, kind and caring soul with a contagious smile and a generous heart.  Sandi was an enthusiastic student of Life.  She had many interests and accomplishments through her years; from homestead gardening at the family cabin in Smithfield, to studying Martial Arts as a family, and becoming a National Certified Massage Therapist.  But, Sandi's passions were her Family and Faith.  She loved being a Mom, a Grandmother, a Teacher, and an active Parishioner and devout Catholic of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.  She loved her Bible Study Group and her favorite fellowship in SPRED (Special Religious Education for the Developmentally), whereby they integrated people with developmental disabilities into the faith and life of the church.

Sandi is preceded in death by her mother Helen Holmberg of Rochester, NH, her sister Beverly Ann Holmberg of Hampton, VA, her father William Holmberg and Stepmother Lucille Holmberg of Rochester, NH.

Sandi is survived by her children, Wendy L. Hall of Tonasket, WA; Penny Hall Falls and her husband Michael Falls of Newport News, VA; her son, Scott W. Hall and his wife Debra Karsay Hall of Yorktown VA; her grandchildren Ryan C. Hall of Yorktown, VA, Elizabeth A. Hall of Hampton VA, and Ian M. Falls of Narrows, VA.

The family would like to express their gratitude to all the staff at the Devonshire Retirement Community, Interim Hospice, DaVita Butler Farm Dialysis, and Sentara CarePlex for their quality care and exemplary compassion.

In lieu of flowers, Sandi requested memorial donations be given to the SPRED program at Our Lady of Mount Carmel.
