IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Samuel J.
Scott Sr.
August 26, 1938 – March 5, 2021
On Tuesday, March 5, 2021, 2:17 a.m., at Sentara CarePlex Hospital, Hampton, VA, Samuel J. Scott, Sr., "Scotty", lovingly called by many, had 82 blessed years of life. God decided to bring our beloved Scotty back to heaven to be with Him -- "From Labor to Reward."
Scotty was born in Mobile, Alabama, August 26, 1938. He was the fourth of five children, born to the late Malcolm and Lucy Scott, who were naturalized American citizens of Georgetown, Grand Cayman, British West Indies. Scotty and his siblings later moved to Pittsburg, PA.
Scotty, as a precocious, introspective child, grew into adulthood through many challenging occasions. Blessed with a keen mind and discerning spirit, he invested many hours in voracious reading and learning from an early age. Being taught by family members at every step in a constant search for knowledge, and more importantly, he worked his way through college graduating from the University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA, BS Mechanical Engineering, Aero Option in 1960 and Georgia Institute of Technology, CE-Lead Based Paint in Public Housing in 1991. He became successful in Engineering, Business and Consulting. Always exhibiting a high degree of modesty and giving.
Too young for the Korean War and too old for the Vietnam War, Scotty pursued a career as a civilian research engineer with the navy, NASA and private industry. Working many civilian and secret projects throughout his career and was author of several research reports. He invested his later years in giving back to his roots as a product of his upbringing in public housing -- becoming an advocate for improving the lives of local residents. After early retirement, he became an AmeriCorps VISTA Volunteer. Teaching in Fatherhood and Inmate Recidivism Programs.
Living a sometimes too zestful life in young adulthood, Scotty resettled into introspection and a desire to fully understand why things are as they are. Utilizing this technical and research educational background, he became more of a student of the wisdom contained in the Oracles of the Living God, the Holy Scriptures and was invited to teach, and lecture in many venues. He taught a weekly Bible Study….. Scotty, author of the book, "OBAMA Out of Genesis" (Copyright 2011), melds all these elements together in a detailed analysis of why world economies are what they are today, and what solutions might be employed to rectify this dire crisis.
Scotty loved spending time with his family. Especially in the summers around the pool. Always welcoming all family and friends. He loved his Pittsburg Steelers. Usually spending most Sundays with his family watching the football games and during off season watching old games. He was always willing to give loving support. He will truly be missed.
Scotty was preceded in death by his parents, Malcolm and Lucy Scott, sisters, Lillian Zellars and Margaret Scott, brothers, William and Albert Scott.
Scotty leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife and helpmate of 54 years, Ann Chavers Scott, daughter, Marcia G. Cosby (Michael) of Suffolk, VA; sons, Samuel "Joey" Scott, Jr., (MariVic) and David E. Scott (Rhonda) both of Newport News, VA, and Sean M. Scott of Hampton, VA; 5 grandchildren, Greg, D. Anthony, Raven, Ashleigh, Devin; four great-grandchildren and one future great-great- granddaughter; nephews, nieces, cousins, and a host of wonderful friends -- 3 very, very special friends, Dorothy Lewis and Purcel "Chuck" Chavers both of Hampton, VA, and Brenda McGriff of Jersey City, NJ.
