Obituary

Salvatore Edward Garguilo was born in Brooklyn, New York on March 10, 1924, the son of Alfonso and Josephine Garguilo, both Italian immigrants. He was the oldest of their three children, Concetta and Alfonso, Junior.  Salvatore attended elementary and high school in Brooklyn and shortly after graduating, he was drafted into the military to serve in WWII reaching the status of Technician Fourth Grade Sergeant in the US Army Tank Corps.

While stationed in Germany, he met and fell in love with Susanne Hannebauer and married her back in America, their marriage lasting 66 years till Susanne's passing. Throughout Salvatore's life, he never spoke of his experiences of battle during the war, but only of his courtship of Susanne and their own adventures together.  Salvatore loved classical music, Italian Art Songs and enjoyed singing these compositions with his powerful and beautiful tenor voice.

With the GI Bill, Salvatore graduated from the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music and gave his graduating recital at the "Carnegie Recital Hall", in Manhattan.  Throughout the years, Salvatore would sing with various local opera companies, in clubs, and sang with his wife at a restaurant in Manhattan called the "Gay Vienna". Till the day of death on March 13 th , four days after his 98 th birthday, Salvatore Garguilo was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather: the ultimate example of devotion.

Salvatore is survived by his daughter Ricki Gadsby and husband Nick Gadsby, his son Christopher Garguilo and wife Rhonda Burrell-Garguilo, his grandchildren Rachahd Garguilo-Tosado, Alexis Garguilo-Brandow, Taylor Garguilo and seven great grandchildren.
