Obituary

Roger Dale Nicholas, 73, passed away on October 29, 2024.  Born in Randolph, WV he served in the US Army during the Vietnam War.  He also worked as a rigger at the Surry Nuclear Power Plant.

Roger loved having fun and working.  He was also the former owner of Butler's Tavern in Newport News, and was an avid golfer.

He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Mary Sue Nicholas; mother, Madeline Nicholas; and his daughters, Connie Southcombe and Peggy Sue Lyell.  He was survived by his daughters, Wanda Sue Hardison (Randy) and Kimberly Sue Hatt (Steve); father, James L. Mullenex; grandchildren, Melissa, Tara, Dillion, Nikki, Nina, Trisha, Melanie and Shane; and twenty-three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 11-12:30 pm Tuesday, November 5, 2024 at Berceuse Funeral and Cremation Traditions, 2609 Cunningham Dr. in Hampton. Immediately following, a graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 PM at Hampton Memorial Gardens.
