Roberto Vazquez, (Robert, Bob, and Bobby), passed away peacefully on May 23, 2023, at the age of 71. Born in Cuba, he moved to the United States as a young child with his parents. He spent most of his adult life traveling the world for the United States Air Force, retiring in 1991 at Langley AFB, Hampton, Virginia. He then continued Civil Service working with NOAA, and then on to the FAA where he retired in 2012.
While he was accomplished in his professional life, those closest to him knew his passion for friendships and adventure. His life's resume boasts experience as a Civil War Reenactor, Hunter, Diver, Photographer, Ham Radio Operator, Fisherman, Survivalist, CPR-First Aid Instructor, Wildlife Rescue Volunteer, Equestrian, Marksman, Artist, Lifelong Student, and so many more. Through his career, travels, adventures, and pursuits he touched many lives.
He left this world as a generous and loving husband and father, caring brother and son, reliable and loyal, friend, devoted community volunteer, and faithful Servant of the Lord.
Roberto was preceded in death by his son, Robert T. Vazquez and his parents, Inez and Roberto Vazquez.
He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Pamela Pickering Vazquez; daughters Kelly Barber (Scott) and Roxanne Vazquez; granddaughters, Savannah and Keely Barber; sisters, Marie Heidel, Adele Reed, and Rosana LeTourneau (Martin); sister-in-law Lu Lovell (Steve); many nieces and nephews; and fur son "Jordan".
A celebration of Roberto's life will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, June 17, 2023, at Providence Evangelical Friends Church, 5340 Providence Rd., in Virginia Beach.
