Robert Harry Balazs

Robert Harry Balazs (Bob), 86, passed away on April 15, 2026. Born in Madison, Wisconsin on March 27, 1940. Bob was the son of Gabriel G. and Dorthy L. (nee Burch) Balazs. Bob spent several of his formative years in Uitenhage, South Africa while his father was employed there by Goodyear Rubber.

Bob graduated from Georgia Tech in 1963. He went to work for Newport News Shipbuilding as a mechanical engineer in 1968. Bob retired from the yard in 1998 after 30 years’ service.

Bob was a member of the Hampton Elks Lodge #366, for 52 years. He served a term as Exulted Ruler for the Lodge. Bob was also a member of the Newport News Moose Lodge #1119 for 50 years. He was the chairman of the Moose Lodge Ritual Team. In that capacity, his team won Moose ritual competitions at District, State and National levels. Bob was also a member of the Do-Nothing Club for over 20 years.

Bob is survived by his nephew, G Bryan Balazs of Livermore, CA.

A Celebration of Bob’s life will be held 11:00 am Saturday, May 23, 2026, at the Newport News Moose Lodge #1119, 2307 60th St., in Hampton, VA.
