Richard Dean Spangler, 85, widower of Judith Ann Spangler, passed away on November 27, 2025.  Born in Sergent, KY, he has been a resident of Hampton since 1959.

Richard served in the US Air Force, after which, he began working at Newport News Shipbuilding as an Electrician and retired after 45 years.

Richard was preceded in death by his siblings, Danny, Bobby, Mickey, James, and Christine McMath.  He is survived by his children, Brenda Williams, Sarah Anderson (Mike), Christine Spangler and Billy Wright (Sasha); grandchildren, Kristina Hoak, Crystal Anderson, Tiffany Anderson, Nicholas Wright, Nicole Wright and Gabriella Bradshaw; great-grandchildren, Elisha Barrow, James Hoak, Davey Hoak, Shane Hoak, Kayce Hoak, Lexi Posey and Emily Posey; and great-great-grandson, Cyrus Shelton.

A celebration of Richard's life, will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, December 7, 2025 at the American Legion Post No. 25, 7609 Marshall Ave in Newport News.

The family wishes to give special thanks to the Hospice Staff at Riverside Hospital for their care and compassion to the family.  Arrangements are by Berceuse Funeral and Cremation Traditions in Hampton, 757-825-8070.
