Richard Prinn Murray (U.S. Navy, Ret.), 81, passed away on March 14, 2022. Born in Bennington, VT, he has lived in Hampton for over 45 years.
Richard retired from the US Navy in 1983 after 26 years, which included service during the Vietnam War. He continued working with the Navy as a deployment engineer at SAIC. He was also a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Richard had many interests. As a youth he was an Eagle Scout and Altar Boy. As an adult he was a member of the American Legion, Virginia Square and Round Dance Association, and Tidal Waves Square and Round Dance Association of which he was the Treasurer for many years. He was also an avid philatelist and collector of various and sundry miscellany.
Richard was preceded in death by his son, Richard P. Murray Jr. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Suzanne L. Murray; children, Michelle R. Goodman (Benton) and Timothy Murray (Chris Barnes); siblings, Joanne Litster and Kevin Murray; grandchildren, Andrew, Ryan, and Chad Goodman; and great-grandchildren, Malia, Olivia and Everleigh Goodman.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10AM Monday March 21 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 512 Buckroe Ave. in Hampton, by Msg. Walter C. Barrett.
During the Season of Lent flowers are not permitted in the Sanctuary. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The V Foundation for Victory Over Cancer at www.v.org.
