Childress, Michael Addison "Chili Dog"
Michael Childress, known to friends as "Chili Dog," passed away on November 20, 2020, at the age of 63 years.  Michael was born in South Charleston, West Virginia and after completing high school at South Charleston High, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served as a welder.  Following his enlistment, Michael was employed by the Newport News Shipyard for 39 years and was a longtime resident of Gloucester, Virginia.

Michael was an avid outdoorsman and spent much of his time hunting and enjoying West Virginia and Virginia wildlife with his best friends Barry Curry and Chris Walker.  Many of his friends will remember him for the "pig picking" events and his lifelong ambition to become a great deer hunter.

Michael was known to his friends and family as someone that took life as it came.  He was happy to sit on his porch and tell you stories of things he had read or give you a talking-to about how you needed to get your life right with Jesus.  He was just a warm guy that definitely deserved a better life, but the life he had is what made him the warm guy.

Michael was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mabel and Addison Childress, his parents Edward Marlin and Betty Means Childress, and his twin brother David Harrison Childress.  He is survived by his siblings, Marla Jane Childress and Isaac "Ike" Childress (Nancy), niece Rachel Rebecca Magnuson (Matt) and nephew Aaron Michael Childress ( RaeAnn );  grandnieces/grandnephews Isaac Joseph Childress, Theresa Jane Magnuson, Brynlee Lorraine Childress, and Benjamin Caleb Childress;  cousins Sandra Elliot, Emory Young, Elizabeth Neal, Roseanne Young Hines, Jay Childress, and Steven Childress; grafted-in family Mary Knoles, Donald Knoles, and Jenene Johnson; and Mike's countless friends he valued and cherished.

Michael will be laid to rest at Childress Cemetery, Kanawha County West Virginia at a later date.
