Mary Carolyn Gibson Lee, age 74, of Newport News, VA passed away on January 8 ^th , 2021. Mary was born on September 13, 1946 and grew up in Lee County, VA. She graduated from Radford University in 1968 and taught for several years before becoming a civil servant. She retired from civil service in 2011.

Mary was passionate about history, particularly military history and that of the British Isles. She was an avid reader of books of all types. Mary had a wicked sense of humor and a loving and generous soul. She and her husband Bill enjoyed restoring and showing antique cars, and the company of their cats and exotic birds. They were also devoted Jeopardy watchers, every night watching to see who can get the final question and be the champion. When anyone visited they would ask their guests if they were staying for Jeopardy. Send our regards to Alex, Mary.

Mary is survived by her daughter Michelle Power of Portland, OR; sisters Joyce Rivero of Weber City, VA and Betty Eichler of Dryden, VA; brother Jon Woodard of Dryden; stepdaughters Deb Black of Leland, NC and Pam Lee of Forest City, NC; grandson Fred Meyer of Rapid City, SD,  granddaughter Heather Meyer of Rapid City, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband William "Bill" Lee, sister June Cassell, and grandson Fox Power. In accordance with her wishes, there will be no service. Memorial donations may be made to the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation or the American Lung Association.
