On February 7, 2026, Marla Prow Brown, of Hampton, VA passed away at her home after a brief illness, surrounded by her son, Bryan, and her husband of 43 years, Waverly Lee (WL).

Marla was a loving wife, mother, sister, and friend and she will be greatly missed. Marla was known for her kindness and effervescent personality. She was born in Newfoundland, and after an early childhood living where the US Air Force took the family, Marla spent her life in the Hampton Roads area. She graduated from York High School. She was the eldest daughter of J. Wolf and Carla H. Prow, of Yorktown.

Marla brought her care and thoughtfulness to her work life and rich volunteer commitments. She was a teaching assistant with both Gloucester County and Hampton City Schools over a span of more than 25 years. And for more than 10 years, Marla was a dedicated handler of her beloved therapy dog, Flower, visiting local hospitals, schools, and senior centers.

In addition to the many lives she touched, Marla leaves behind dear friends and family near and far; her husband, WL Brown; her son, Bryan Brown, and his wife, Shae Kleinschmidt; her step-daughter Jennifer Sutter, and her husband, Kevin Sutter; her sister, Anna Prow, and her wife, Liz Cook. A private viewing will be held for immediate family to say a final goodbye.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Marla’s name to Therapy Dogs International (TDI) http://www.tdi-dog.org/default.aspx.
