Lynne Arthur Southcombe, 79, passed away on Wednesday, July 6, 2022. Born in Michigan City, IN, he has been a resident of Hampton since 1963, where he retired from the Ironworkers Union Local #79 in 2010. He also served in the US Army from 1961-1967. During his service, he received a letter of commendation as a sharpshooter.
He was married to the love of his life, Vivian Southcombe. They were married for 42 years until her passing in 2010. You could always find them on a dance floor somewhere. When Lynne and Vivian met, he became an instant father to three. As time went on, they had five children together. From then, they opened up their home to fostering over eighty children and adopting eight. Every child that entered their home was loved unconditionally. No matter how you came into this family, everyone was loved and treated equally. You could always stop by 122 Winchester Drive for good conversation and company on the front porch and a hot meal anytime. The family's happy place was Snug Harbor, NC where the family went many times to go camping. You could always find Memaw and Pepaw either sitting around the campfire roasting hotdogs and marshmallows, were hand in hand dancing, or spending time at the lake. This place holds special memories for so many.
Lynne was a hardworking ironworker/rigor for many years. He loved what he did and would have loved to continue working until his passing if he could have. He was lovingly known as "Big Daddy" from his work family, mentoring many through the years. While he loved his work, he loved his family even more. Through the years, he spent many hours on the football field coaching and umpiring baseball games. As his children and grandchildren grew up, he continued to support his family and enjoyed watching the grandkids and great grandkids at their games and activities. Lynne also had a love for building and creating things in his garage and wood shop for his family and friends to pass down for generations.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Myrtle Southcombe, wife Vivian, sister Jerry, children, Rusty, Robin, Ramonda Delynne, Dustin, and Rebecca Southcombe.
Lynne is survived by his daughters and their spouses, Rhonda Richardson (Randy), Cheryl Underwood (Joe), Tonya Beckner (Pollock), Melinda Allen, Michele Malone, Ramonda Southcombe(Tim); sons and their spouses, Ramon Monroe (Virginia), Randy Monroe (Beverly), Derrick Southcombe, Ryan Southcombe, and Andy Southcombe; sister, Patricia A. Southcombe, Twenty seven grandchildren; twenty six great-grandchildren and his close high school friend, Edwin Magruder and good friend Gary Lively.
