Hampton
Our beloved daughter, sister and aunt Kimberly Jude Ann Palumbo, 59, passed away on June 1, 2022. Born at Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, NC, she has been a resident of Hampton since 2002. Though she suffered progressive and debilitating ailments, Kim was a fighter and an independent woman. Earlier in her adult life she was a house painter, she worked at Peninsula Memorial Park, and for the last two decades her career was that of a Claims Adjuster for USAA Financial Services. Before it was the trend to work from home, Kim was one of the employees USAA tapped to do so in their pilot program. Through her time with USAA she gained and maintained certification for many differing states so she could handle claims from across the USA, thus making her a valuable and essential employee.
In her spare time Kim enjoyed all things to do with family. She doted on her nieces and nephews, and she baked whenever she could. She especially loved to make her famous cheesecakes, birthday cakes, and cookies for her nieces and nephews. Kim was blessed to be chosen as Godmother to more than one of her nieces and a nephew. Kim had a dynamite personality and quick wit.
Another area Kim excelled was in drawing and sketching people and creating fashion designs. She had an eye for color and composition. She attended VCU studying fashion design and merchandising. When she moved to Ohio she attended Stark Technical College. In 1987 she graduated with two associate degrees, one in Applied Business in Retail Marketing and another in Applied Business in Business Management.
She kept a watchful eye out for those in need. Kim was a caretaker from an early age, having helped raise her 5 siblings through our lives as dependents in the military. Kim always understood that the family unit was number one, and it was to be revered and protected. She continued that passion when she cared for our precious mother, Joan. In the past, Kim continued to care for others when she volunteered for the Funeral Ministry at St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
Kim was preceded in death by her mother, Joan S. Palumbo, and her sister, Kristine A. Palumbo. She is survived by her father, Fred J. Palumbo and Doris Padgett; siblings: Kelli Palumbo-White of Milford, DE, Korri Williams and her husband Terry of Galesville, WI, Kristen Rainey and her husband Ben of Norfolk, VA, Kassi Allen and her husband Matt of Arlington, VA, and Tony Palumbo and his wife Channing of Poquoson, VA; and her many nieces and nephews: Katelyn Palumbo, Cooper Allen, Jacob White, Gabe White, Isabel Allen, Delaney Allen, Caleb White, and Michael Wallace.
