IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Juliet Papa
Mannen
November 3, 1923 – January 9, 2020
Juliet Papa Mannen, 96, was born in Frankfort, KY on November 3, 1923 and peacefully passed away in her home on Thursday, January 9, 2020 surrounded by her loving family.
She was the wife of Colonel Daniel Joseph Mannen. Together, with their six children, they traveled to many Air Force bases throughout the United States and England. After her husband's death Julie settled in Hampton, making it her home for over 50 years. She is survived by her children, Julianne Hicks, Dan Mannen (Elizabeth Ann), Peggy Theiss, Tony Mannen(Chris), Shelly Kelly, and Mike Mannen(Janice); her nine grandchildren, Kristina, Dan, Josh, Kim, Jenny, Chris, Eric, Renee, and Alex; and her five great grandchildren, Luke, Hunter, Joey, Tyler and Evelyn.
Julie was a founding member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Hampton and was actively involved in the church throughout her life. She served on numerous ministries and committees. She was co-chair of the 1988 building and renovation committee with John Doyle; served on the Refugee Settlement Committee; was the first female Lector at ICC; trained and scheduled Lectors for over 35 years (including two generations of the Mannen family-Mike, Shelly, Eric); she assisted with planning for various liturgical seasons in the church; was a Eucharist Minister, Wedding Coordinator and Funeral Planner. She also welcomed all ICC pastors into her home on a regular basis for delicious homemade meals and friendship.
Julie was an avid card player. She played Bridge for several years. She loved playing card games and especially loved beating her children and grandchildren in Canasta and Spades.
A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, February 23, 2020 at 6:00 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 2150 Cunningham Dr., Hampton. Please join the family in the commons for a party immediately following the service as we continue to celebrate Julie's life.
The family would like to express our gratitude to her primary caregivers, our sister, Shelly Kelly, who provided love and support over the past five years and Syreeta Manning, whose care for our mother was invaluable.
Gracious God, we pray to you for Julie and for all those whom we love but see no longer. Grant to them eternal rest. Let light perpetual shine upon them. May her soul, and the souls of all the departed, through the mercy of God, Rest In Peace and Rise in Glory. +Amen
