Joseph Edward Diggs, 94, passed away on August 27, 2023. Born and raised in Newport News, he graduated from Huntington High School class of '48 and then served our country in the US Army. He moved to Chesapeake in 1988 and retired from the Norfolk Ship Company after 15 years of employment.

Joseph was preceded in death by his wife, Ida Diggs; son, Joel L. Diggs; sisters, Vernell Boyd Pickney and Alice Diggs Robertson; brothers, Willis Diggs, Sylvester Diggs, Cleveland Diggs, Leon Diggs, Robert Diggs, and Ronald Diggs.

He is survived by his children, Janice D. Williams and Jeffrey L. Diggs; brother, James Diggs; sisters, Eunice Diggs Sowell, Loretta Diggs Lassiter, Beatrice Diggs, Gladys Diggs Walker, and Deborah Diggs Addison; grandchildren, Christopher Williams, Jay Jay Williams, Torie Williams, Latasha Wilson, Jeffrey L. Diggs, Jr., Jackson Diggs, Nina Diggs, and Diandria Flowers; and 12 great-grandchildren.
