John "Michael" Schmitt, 75, passed away Thursday, April 29, 2021 at Riverside Regional Medical Center.  He was born July 5, 1945 in Muscatine, Iowa, to Lucille and Arnold Schmitt. He joined the Navy at 18 years old; where he enjoyed a long career of 23 years serving his country selflessly.  After retiring from the Navy, he joined the family of Northrop Grummond where he stayed for over 31 years.

"Mike" was preceded in death by his parents, Lucille and Arnold Schmitt.  Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 56 years, Jane Ellen; daughters Rachel and Jennifer (Chris); and grandchildren, Andrew, Skyler and Emma; brothers, Laurence Alan Schmitt (Dolores) and Robert Arnold Schmitt (Janet).

Mike lived a full and happy life.  His love for cars was always present, along with his love for horses.  He spent every weekend taking his daughter to horse riding competitions.  He enjoyed going to the movies with he family and talking history with Skyler.

Services will be private.  In lieu of flowers, please make donations of the Veterans Administration.  Arrangements are by Berceuse Funeral and Cremation Traditions in Hampton, 757-825-8070.
