John Wilson Byrd, Jr, age 84, passed away on Sunday, April 23, 2023. Born to John Byrd, Sr and Allie Hoggard in Tarboro, North Carolina, he was a Hampton resident for 51 years. He attended Warwick High School and spent his entire career in the ship repair business.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Sr and Allie Byrd; sister, Carol Peavy; daughter, Michelle Lewis; great-granddaughter, Haley Hopkins.

John leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 54 years, Kathy Byrd; sons, John William Byrd (Lisa) and Gregory Byrd (Irene); sister, Virginia Barrow; cousin, Steve Gillikin; grandchildren, Lauren, Tyler, Alyssa, Justin, Taylor, and Ryan; great-grandchildren, Nikki, Evan, Wyatt, Cason, Presley, Olivia, Alaina and several nieces and nephews.
