Joanne Sage Frielingsdorf 1951-2021
Loving wife, mother, grandma (gram), best friend, and retired nurse Joanne was loved and respected by everyone she met. She passed away peacefully, age 70, finally pain free after so many years, surrounded by her family at Mary Immaculate hospital on Thursday 4 February 2021.
Joanne was born 25 Aug 1950 in Port Chester NY, the daughter of Robert and Grace Sage.
Joanne graduated from Port Chester High school, in the class of 1968 and was part of the Ramette drill team and was in the chorus. After high school Joanne attended the Greenwich Hospital School of Nursing, and graduated 21 May 1971. She spent the majority of her 35 plus year nursing career in neonatal intensive care. Joanne moved with her husband Michael around the country and world with the USAF working at various hospitals, finally retiring from Riverside Hospital in Newport News VA. Joanne was an active member of the Episcopal church and was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal church in Hampton VA for many years. While at St. Mark's she belonged to the choir and bell choir. She also graduated from the University of the South school of theology in 2000. After retirement she cherished her monthly lunches with her nursing friends from Riverside. She was also very close with her nursing school classmates and looked forward to spending as much quality time with them as she could. Joanne was also working with her classmates to plan a virtual Golden Jubilee reunion in May 2021.
Joanne married the love of her life Michael on 30 December 1972 after meeting him at one of her nursing school classmate's weddings in 1971. They enjoyed an adventurous 48 years together traveling the country and the world. While Michael was in the Air Force they were stationed in Denver, Colorado, Mountain Home, Idaho, Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Lakenheath, England, Hampton Virginia and finally settling in Yorktown, Virginia. Joanne had endless love for her husband, children and grandchildren.
Joanne is survived by her husband Michael Frielingsdorf, son Alexander (Shaunna) Frielingsdorf of Deltona FL, daughter Kyra Grace of Lenexa KS, Grandson Alexander Chase Frielingsdorf of Las Vegas, NV and Granddaughter Addison Frielingsdorf of Deltona, FL.
Survived by her Brother Robert R. (Jeannine) Sage Jr. of Meridan, CT, niece Jackie Milliron, nephew Robert R. Sage III, Sister Beverly (Rory) Carnahan of Hopewell Junction, NY, nieces Gretchen and Audra, Sister Marilyn (Dave) Dixon of Levittown, PA, nephew Dennis Dixon. nephew Russell Sage, nieces Kristen and Summer Sage, sister-in-law Cathleen Reeder of St. Louis, MO, nephews Christopher and Bill Reeder sister-in-law Maren (John) King of Syracuse, NY, nephews Peter and Andrew King
Joanne was preceded in death by her parents Robert R. and Grace Sage, and Brother Roger "Doc" Sage
