Obituary

  • Joan Prano Maxwell, beloved daughter of the late Frank and Edna Prano, transitioned from life to eternity on June 23, 2021. Born on September 23, 1955, she was raised in Detroit, MI. She joined the military as a Military Police Officer and later changed to a cook in the 3 rd Corps at Ft. Hood, TX as a Food Service Specialist.

In 1997 Joan met and fell in love with US Army Sgt First Class Rodney Maxwell. The two were united in marriage on April 21, 2004. Joan and Rodney shared 17 loving years of marriage. Joan attended Bethel Church and was baptized on June 14, 2015 and joined a prayer group.

Joan will be remembered for her strong Christian faith and values, her kind and gentle spirit, and her great smile. She always had an encouraging word for everyone and was never known to say unkind things about anyone. Her family and friends find solace in knowing that weeping may endure for a night but joy cometh in the morning (Psalm 30:5). God blessed us to have Joan in our lives.

Joan leaves to cherish her fond memories her loving husband, Rodney Maxwell; her daughter Nicole Denson and husband, Northern of Chicago, IL; her son, Eric Prano and fianceé, Samantha Phoenix of Chicago, IL; her brother, Frank Prano and wife, Rose and their son, Chris; her beloved grandchildren who were a treasure in her life, Latrice, Aryelle, Luckell, Tyeece, DeMariae, Joseph, Olivia, and Kennedy; and her great-grandson, Myles.

Joan will also be missed by the beloved extended family she grew up with, Louise Prano, Rachel Monti, Becky Smith and her fiancé, Eric Kanepoulos, and John Prano and their children, Lawrence, Haley, Donnie, Rick Jenssen, John and Laurie Prano, Nick Prano, and Jerry Ridgeway.

Joan also loved her mother-in-law, Dolores Maxwell; her sister-in-law, Eileen Hardy; her brothers-in-law, Clarence Maxwell and wife, Eleanor, Melvin Maxwell and wife, Cherry, Warren Maxwell, and Marvin Matthews; uncle, Gilbert Bembry and wife, Lou; her two best friends, Cindy Stevens and Florence Williams; her Goddaughter, Jamilah Nailor Thompson; her Godson, Jonathan Woodley; and a host of loving cousins and veterans.

The family will receive friends from 10-11 AM, Thursday, July 1, 2021 at Berceuse Funeral and Cremation Traditions, 2609 Cunningham Drive with a funeral service with Army honors to follow at 11:00AM. The service may be viewed live by clicking here . The family requests that you please make sure to wear a mask if attending in person.

Joan, you are the love of my life and I will forever cherish the memories we shared. Love always, Rodney.
