Obituary

Jack Leonard Ferguson Sr., age 88, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2022 surrounded by loved ones.  He moved to the Hampton area in 1979 after having been born and raised in Binghamton, NY.

Early in life Jack was an electrical lineman in upstate New York, as was his father and grandfather before him. He also was an expert plaster mason who was known for creating beautiful custom floral ceilings, all done free hand. Jack eventually transitioned to retail sales, most notably at Sears & Roebuck, Electrolux, and finally Montgomery Wards where he retired after 36 years of service. He was extremely successful at the art of sales having earned countless top salesman awards resulting in recognition ceremonies, and worldly vacations.

Jack was a man of many talents and retail sales was just his "formal" career. He was truly a "Jack of all Trades", a master at fixing anything and excelled at customizing & refurbishing vintage vehicles in his spare time.

Throughout life he was open to just about anything fun and thrilling, including water skiing, riding motorcycles, white water rafting, amusement rides (Tower of Terror was a favorite) and any kind of roller coaster. He had just taken his first helicopter ride in the fall of 2021!

He was a nature lover and enjoyed biking and walking on trails with his wife, Nancy, and their many beagles over the years. He enjoyed feeding and watching the back-yard birds of Virginia and the beautiful Eastern Bluebird was his favorite.

Jack loved traveling with Nancy, and they were fortunate to have taken many trips. Their most cherished "trip of a lifetime" was exploring California, Nevada & Arizona, with Yosemite National Park leaving them both in awe.

Of all Jack had done in his life, it is his role as Grandpa that gave him true joy and happiness and it is as Grandpa that he has left the most impact. A very gentle and kind soul, he has left a mark on every member of his beloved family and will be forever in our hearts.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife of 69 years, Nancy Ferguson; son, Jack Ferguson, Jr. (Maria); daughters, Debra Wood (Mark) and Kathleen Hay (Eric); sisters, Joyce Comar and Judy Rogers (Bill); brothers, Sam Ferguson (Mary), Robert Ferguson (Diane), and Eddie Ferguson; grandchildren, James Ferguson (Bunny), Joseph Ferguson, Jackie Blair (Bobby), Aaron Montgomery (Patricia), Paige Ballone (Daniel), Kerry Wood, Shannon Wood, Kevin Wood; great-grandchildren, Joshua Ferguson, Lisa Ripley, Eric Blair, Amanda Blair, Jack Blair, Noah Ferguson, Christine Brock, Zoe Ferguson, Emma Montgomery, Elin Montgomery, Declan Ballone; great-great grandchildren, Amelia and Cole.

He is predeceased by his mother, Mary Ferguson, his father Dudley Ferguson and stepmother, Althea Ferguson.
