Howard Clarence Levitt, 86, passed away on July 3, 2023, surrounded by his family. Born in Sharon, PA, he has been a resident of Yorktown since 1985, where he retired from UPS after 38 years.
Howard was preceded in death by his son, Robert James Levitt, his mother and father Merle and Katherine Levitt, 5 brothers Thomas, John, William, Richard, and Ralph, and 3 sisters Ann, Patricia, and Norene. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Donna A. Levitt; daughter, Lisa Levitt-Benavides (Hector); brother, Harvey L. Levitt (Patricia); grandchildren, Katelynn Walton, Miranda Walton, Matthew Levitt-Benavides and Christopher Benavides (Jade); and four great-grandchildren.
After his mother and father died, he was raised by his sister Ann and her husband Robert Fraley. He went into the Air Force at a very young age. He served in the Korean War twice and was stationed in France. While stationed at Langley Air Force Base, he met his future wife. After 10 years of service, he was honorably discharged and soon began a career with United Parcel Service. He served in different management positions. His favorite was working with the Tracker Trailers.
He loved his family. He taught them many life lessons. He always would give to the poor, pastors, missionaries, widows, and anyone that was in need. He never wanted anything back in return or praise.
For approximately 35 years, he spent every Friday night with Leon Cole solving the world's political problems while Violet and Donna went shopping. Leon jokingly says he knows more about Howard than anyone in his family does. They were his dearest friends who became family to him.
Later in life, he was diagnosed with Parkinson's and eventually, cancer took him away. He never wanted to be a bother to anyone and would refuse to use a wheelchair or a walker. However, he never lost his sense of humor through it all. He will be missed by many.
The family will receive friends from 10-11:00 AM Saturday, August 5, 2023, at Peninsula Baptist Church, 2605 Cunningham Dr. in Hampton. Immediately following at 11:00 am, a service to remember Howard will be held by Pastor Kevin Hare.
The family wishes in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy to take the form of contributions to the Parkinson's Foundation at www.parkinson.org, or the Peninsula SPCA at https://peninsulaspca.org.
Arrangements are by Berceuse Funeral and Cremation Traditions in Hampton, 757-825-8070.
