God knew the road was getting rough; the hill was hard to climb.  He gently closed her eyes and whispered, "Sweet peace, be thine."

Helen T. James went peacefully home to be with the Lord on September 3, 2022, while at home surrounded by her devoted and loving family.  Helen was born on December 31, 1933 to the late John Talton and Helen (Chapman) Talton and was preceded in death by three loving brothers: Clarence Talton, Joseph Talton, and Willie (Kit) Talton.

Helen accepted Christ at an early age and continued her faithful walk with the Lord throughout her life.  She retired from the medical field as a Nurse and devoted her life to caring for others.  We cannot bring back the days when we would gather around the table for Sunday dinner, but the days we spent with her will live with us forever.  She was affectionately known as the "neighborhood mom" and always willing to lend an ear, time, wisdom and encouragement to all who needed it.  She was the master of witty sayings and kept us laughing with her special kind of humor.  Her memory will remain in our hearts forever.

Helen leaves to cherish her memories her daughter, Marian Kearney of Hampton VA; her son, Gerston James Jr. of Hampton VA; her daughter-in-love, Dr. Katina Ward-James; three grandchildren, Gerston James III (Adriona) of Woodbridge VA, Jordan James of Hampton VA, and Austin Johnson of Los Angeles CA; two great-grandchildren, Skyler Winns and Gianna James of Woodbridge VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, neighborhood children, and everyone she touched.
