With deep love and gratitude we remember Helen Cvik (July 27, 1938 — January 28, 2026), age 87.
Thank you, Helen — for a lifetime of steady love and quiet courage. You were the loving wife to Jim, who dragged you all around the world — Nevada, California, Texas, the Philippines, Virginia, Florida, Okinawa — and you went, smiling and supporting him along the way. You were a proud Air Force wife who guided the wives of his pilots as they served our great country. You were a devoted mother to us, Salli and Sandi, teaching us how to cook and clean and create our own happy homes. You fostered in us a love of creating with our own hands — painting, crafting, gardening — the sky was the limit. You were a loving big sister to Susie, Martha, and Tommy — a faithful shoulder to lean on. Thank you for the lullabies and the lessons, the warm kitchen-table conversations, the laughter that brightened ordinary days, and the safety we felt in worlds outside of our comfort zone. Your kindness, patience, and gentle wisdom shaped us; your care will guide us always. She is survived by her husband, Jim Cvik; her daughters, Salli Cumbie and Sandi Brewer; her grandsons, Jay Cumbie, Sam Cumbie, Chase Brewer, and Cameron Brewer; her great-granddaughters, Sawyer Cumbie, Carly Cumbie, and Mia Brewer; her sisters, Susie Alexander and Martha Howe; and her brother, Tom Barineau.
A celebration of Helen’s life will be held on February 9, 2026 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m.
Thank you Mom.
