Esther Sherman, 92, passed away on April 3 due to complications related to Alzheimer's disease.
Esther came into the world on New Year's Day in South Norfolk (current day Chesapeake), the youngest child of W.O. and Leota Sherman. After graduating from Holy Trinity High School in Norfolk, Esther embarked on many different careers, from insurance agent to small business owner. She was also a Montessori school teacher for almost a decade, and helped establish St. Mark's Montessori School in Springfield, VA in the late 1960s and served as its director. Esther moved throughout Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, and Florida during her life, but returned to the Tidewater area in the early 2000s, where she was an active member of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of the Peninsula for many years.
Among her accomplishments, Esther was most proud of being mother to John, Catherine, and Regina. Esther is survived by her daughter, Regina Zoske (Bill) of St. Augustine, Florida; as well as four grandchildren, David, Carol, Rebecca, and Sarah; and five great-grandchildren, Nicolas, Anthony, Johnny, Carter, and Owen.
