Ellen Ruth Council-Powell, 69, passed away on October 30, 2026. A lifelong resident of Newport News, she retired from Newport News Shipbuilding as a Toolroom Supervisor in 2019 after 42 years.
Ellen is survived by her husband, Phillip S. Powell; brother, David Council, and her “Fur Babies”, Fiona, Faith and Dallas.
Ellen’s life will be celebrated at 5:00 pm Friday, November 6, 2026 at Berceuse Funeral and Cremation Traditions, 2609 Cunningham Dr. in Hampton, 757-825-8070. The family wishes expressions of sympathy to take the form of contributions your local SPCA or Animal Rescue Organization.
