We celebrate the life of Cleveland Thomas Hill, age 73, who transitioned to eternal life on Sunday, July 25, 2021. He was the second child born to his mother Helen Etta Hill. Cleveland, AKA "Big Cat," was a resident of Newport News. He worked as a bricklayer for over 40 years before becoming disabled. "Big Cat" could usually be found shooting pool or trying his luck with the lottery. He loved watching sports on TV and was known locally as a very good boxer. He was so good at boxing, while growing up, we heard people say, "don't mess with her, that's Big Cat's sister."
He really loved his family and would put himself in harm's way to protect them. He was great with numbers. He memorized license plate numbers, phone numbers and of course lottery numbers from years ago and the dates. He had a cat named "Cat". When he spoke, he had no filter. He spoke his mind unapologetically and you did not have to guess what he was thinking. No matter how harshly his words may have come across, there was no mistaking the intent of his BIG HEART. He loved whole-heartedly!! He was very good looking, and he knew it. He was a father, grandfather, brother and friend to many people. He's at peace now and never has to worry about pain again.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his daughters, Kimberly Reese and Yolanda Thompson-Buist; sisters, Helena Alston (Galwin), Vickie Dunlap (Ronald), and Sharon Hill; brothers, MacArthur Hill and Randy Hill; grandchildren, Madison Fullwood and Morgan Fullwood; a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
