Obituary

On Monday, November 4, 2024, Mr. Clarence Lee Wilkins, Sr. 88 years old, fondly known as "Mr. C", and widower to the former Mrs. Halistine Wilkins went home to be with the Lord.

Born on December 7, 1935, to Mr. James Wilkins and Ms. Mamie Maze of Chester, Pennsylvania, Clarence was the only child born from this union; however, due to the untimely death of his biological father Mr. James Wilkins, Clarence was reared by his stepfather Mr. James Gardiner along with his mother Ms. Mamie Gardiner after their union.  Clarence resided with them both in Chester, Pennsylvania during his formative years.

Clarence received his formal education in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from Bartran High School. Upon the completion of his formal education, Clarence joined the United States Armed Forces, United States Air Force.  At the completion of his service, he met, got engaged to, and married the former Ms. Halistine Williams on December 19, 1959.  From that union, five children were born, Mr. Billy Williams, Mr. Clarence Wilkins, Jr., Ms. Charmaine Wilkins-Poe, Mrs. Sheila Dickerson and Mr. James Wilkins at which time all resided in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

After Clarence's marriage to Halistine, he further provided for his family with employment with the General Electric Company and then subsequently worked as a Bus Driver with the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority "SEPTA" which he went on to retire with more than 20 years of faithful and dedicated service.

After almost of 50 years residing in Philadelphia "Clarence" along with his wife Halistine and daughter Charmaine moved to Hampton "Phoebus", Virginia where they would affectionately call it "Home Away from Home, 9 North Hope." Neighbors compassionately referred to him as "Mr. C." the One on the Left Side of the Porch in the Rocking Chair."

Clarence was a tireless provider, enthusiastic protector and compassionate father to all five of his children and countless nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren, guiding them through numerous life journeys while all along "Providing wisdom and giving guidance all the time."

Clarence is survived by his five children, Mr. Billy Williams, Mr. Clarence Wilkins, Jr., Ms. Charmaine Wilkins-Poe, Mrs. Sheila Dickerson and Mr. James Wilkins; along with 18 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; daughters-in-law, Mrs. Leila L. Williams, Mrs. Lisa Wilkins, Mrs. Nedra Wilkins; and son-in-law Mr. Henry Dickerson.
