Obituary

Ret. SSG Clarence Alvin Frierson, 88, passed away on December 25, 2022.  Born in McNeil, Arkansas to Flozie and Clarence Frierson, he has been a resident of Newport News since the 1960s.  HE retired from the U. S. Army in 1974 after 20 years, which included service during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. After retiring he worked for 84 Lumber, as a security guard at Comfort Inn by Patrick Henry Mall, and a custodian at First Baptist Church Denbigh. As an active member of the Male Chorus, Mr. Frierson served for over 40 years at various churches including First Baptist Church Denbigh, New Bethel Baptist Church in York County-where he also was a Deacon, and finally a member of New Beech Grove Baptist Church.

Clarence was preceded in death by his son Morris Frierson and daughter, Bertha D. Frierson.  He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Irene E. Frierson; daughters, Gloria Frierson, Murties Frierson and Lisette Frierson; sons, Lawrence Frierson, Roy LeBlanc and Peter LeBlanc; sisters, Freddie Faye Jones and Laura Jean Andrews; brother, Charles Frierson; twenty-one grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.

A Private Celebration of Life will be held in Summer 2023.  Arrangements are by Berceuse Funeral and Cremation Traditions in Hampton, 757-825-8070.
