Charles Warren Hubbard ("Good Time Charlie")

March 20, 1943 – August 5, 2024

Charles Warren Hubbard, affectionately known as "Good Time Charlie," passed away on August 5, 2024, in Newport News, VA, at the age of 81. Born on March 21, 1943, in Norton, VA, Charles spent his early childhood in Dorchester, VA, where he worked alongside his father in the coal mines, a testament to his strong work ethic and dedication from a young age.

For over 50 years, Charles was a proud machinist at the Newport News shipyard, where he took great pride in his work, particularly in helping to build several aircraft carriers. He was always eager to point out the vessels he had a hand in constructing, sharing his accomplishments with those he loved.

Charles is survived by his wife, his devoted daughter Sandra Hubbard, his brother Gary Hubbard, and his sister Betty Mills. He also leaves behind his best friend of over half a century, Sandra K Elkins-Godwin, along with countless other family members and friends who were touched by his warmth and generosity.

A man who never met a stranger, Charles was known for lighting up any room he entered. He cherished traveling to visit friends and family, relaxing by the beach, and staying active at the Hampton YMCA. His kindness, humor, and willingness to help others will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

In accordance with Charles' wishes, there will be no formal ceremony, and he has requested cremation. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations to be made in his memory to the Hampton YMCA, where Charles spent many joyful hours.
