Carrie Clarke-Brown, born on May 3, 1943, to loving parents Leroy and Carrie Baxter, was the second of three girls in Sally, South Carolina. At a young age, her family relocated to Queens, New York, where she graduated from high school.
In 1959, Carrie met Thomas Clarke, and they married in 1960. Together, they had four children: Gwen, Anthony, Ronald, and Nakia. Despite their lives diverging, Carrie and Thomas remained close friends and committed to raising their children together.
Years later, Carrie found her soulmate, George Garland Brown. They married on April 21, 2001, and built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, mutual care, and friendship.
Carrie, a compassionate and caring Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at Mary Magdalene Hospital, found immense fulfillment in her role. She brought joy and comfort to those around her through care, love, and unwavering support. Carrie worked at Mary Magdalene for over 20 years, retiring in 1993.
On February 12, 2025, Carrie passed away, leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness. She was preceded by her father, Leroy; her mother, Carrie; her special daughter, Gwen; her sisters, Mary Thompson and Barbara Baxter; her niece, Tracy Dabney; her nephews, James Thompson and Richard Alston; and many other loved ones.
Carrie will be cherished in the memories of her husband, George Garland Brown; her children, Anthony Clarke (SiSi), Nakia Peek (Shawn), and Ronald Clarke (Sheron); her sister, Pauline Williams and Eartha Alston; her grandsons, Quentin, Nate, Alex, Dominic, and Amir; her nephews, Thomas Thompson, Lee Thompson; her nieces, Mary Miller, Janice Williams, Sandra Williams, Larissa Johnson, Ruth Baxter; and countless family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday May 3, 2025 at Berceuse Funeral and Cremation Traditions, 2609 Cunningham Drive, Hampton, VA 23666 (757)-825-8070.
