Anthony (Tony) Wayne DeShong, 57, Hampton, VA died on August 15 ^th 2020 at 1:43pm at Riverside Regional Medical Center due to Anoxic Encephalopathy (brain damage due to lack of oxygen).  Born on September 9 ^th , 1962 in Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier Parrish, LA. Tony loved his children with every ounce of his body and was very proud of each one of them.  Tony enjoyed "tinkering" with things. He built his "garage-mahal" and spent time working on projects in his spare time. He was best known for his caring character, sense of humor and positive outlook.  When he tickled himself with a good joke, he would hug himself, pat his shoulders and say "I humor myself".  He always tried to be light hearted, because he felt others had a hard-enough time without making it worse. He enjoyed playing cards, going out to dinner and just visiting with friends.  He enjoyed listening to 70's music, the smell of a new car, puppy breath and traveling, even if it was for medical reasons.  He enjoyed fishing with his friends and boys, hunting with his oldest son and dear friends and helping out people in need.

He always made new friends wherever he went.  He always made people laugh and smile.  Since December 2014 Tony had been fighting, and was starting to beat, the metastatic kidney cancer.  Duke Eye and Cancer centers are studying his tissue to help others who are fighting renal cell carcinoma.  This is something Tony felt strongly about.  He always went through the medical procedures, not only help his boys, but to help the next person who may encounter the same situation. He and his wife were known as the "Duke Couple", Oh your "That Couple" and most recently, the "Power Couple".  They complimented each other, bringing such joy and positive energy wherever they went. Their ambition was to help others who were dealing with cancer and to see the positive.

Tony attended East Anchorage High School and graduated from Santa Rita High School.  He continued his higher education at Blue Ridge Community College, Old Dominion University and started his Masters in Systems Engineering at George Washington University.

He worked for 30 years at Huntington Ingalls Industries (Newport News Shipbuilding).  He worked in the X89; E82 reactive services; E88, X48. Working as an Engineer and Data Base Administrator that supported engineering, planning and scheduling departments throughout the shipyard.

He attended the Peninsula Community Chapel in Yorktown, VA, where he felt at home and at peace.  He participated in a weekly home group and started to find his faith in God and the amazing things He does.

A service will be held once restrictions of COVID will allow larger gatherings.
