Annette Marie Wilkins 'AKA' Cakie was called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 23, 2022. Annette was born in Newport News, Virginia but lived most of her life in Hampton. Annette was preceded in death by her father Mr. Willie D. Wilkins, Sr., her mother Eva Faye Wilkins, and her brothers Leon Wilkins, Willie D. Wilkins Jr., and Wendell Wilkins.
Annette was educated in the Hampton City School system and graduated from Kecoughtan High School. Annette was employed at Langley Air Force Base Commissary for over 25 years as she continued to work until her health begin to decline. Annette loved her family to no avail; she took tender loving care of both of her parents until their death. Cakie also loved to ride and go places with her family or friends. If a car moved, she would be ready to ride and you could always count on Cakie to lend her navigational skills to the driver to ensure they knew how to get there. Even though she did not know specific names of streets or exits, she knew landmarks or familiar scenery that would get you to your destination. Cakie always treasured spending time with her family, whether it was at a family gathering or going on a family vacation. She also enjoyed cooking, drawing, and shopping, however, her greatest joy was having the opportunity to dance the night away to her favorite song, "Got My Whiskey" by Mel Waiters.
Annette is survived by her sister, Essie W. Carter and her brother, Andre Wilkins as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and lots of special friends who she considered family.
Annette's life will be celebrated at 5:00pm on Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at Berceuse Funeral and Cremation.
